Escape the Crowds With a Private Island Adventure

If you’re looking to escape the crowds and revel in a private island adventure that’s designed for you and you alone, there are plenty of options available. From secluded islands that feature exclusive spa treatments and superb cuisine, to those that offer world-class water activities and sublime castaway charm, there are lots of choices for your next island getaway.

According to Krolow, many of the clients he serves are seeking an “extremely unique experience.” “They want something that can’t be replicated in a hotel or a vacation rental,” he says. “They’re looking for a totally different type of adventure.”

One such option is a private island resort in Belize that’s only open to couples for three nights at a time. The property called Gladden Caye has a spa, scuba diving and a gourmet chef. The cost for a three-night stay is $2,950.

Another island retreat is Banwa Private Island in Palawan, Philippines. The property has a staff of 36, including cooks, guides, water sports professionals and spa technicians, who are available to guests whenever they’re needed. The resort offers a host of unscripted adventures, such as waterfall chasing and sandbank picnics, and each experience celebrates the uniqueness of the natural environment surrounding Banwa.

Among the cheaper private island options, one on Minnesota’s Juggler Lake boasts 18 acres of lush forest and wild strawberries, ginger and morels to forage. It’s an ideal retreat for budget hikers, and a three-bedroom cedar log cabin can be rented for just $150 per night for groups of six or less.

For a truly unique island adventure, book a trip with River Island Adventures in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The company owns the only private island in the Waccamaw River, and offers a one-of-a-kind outdoor attraction for visitors. The site features a tree swing, yard games, a large fire pit, boat dock & ramp and clean restrooms. The company also offers a guided boat tour around the one-acre private island and a sand dollar and shelling adventure.

If you’re a completionist, be sure to level up your island’s Hello Kitty friends, who have a variety of tools and gadgets at their disposal. Getting them all to hang out with each other helps unlock more of the island’s hidden secrets. Plus, if you collect all the items in their collections, you can earn some cool rewards. It can take real-life days to complete some of these collection missions, but it’s worth the wait for an immersive, character-driven island adventure.
